Help kids with disabilities chase their sports goals and dreams

Sports, athletics, and recreation are a crucial part of my life, and I understand the benefits that an active lifestyle can create. Unfortunately, people with disabilities often have to watch from the sidelines, as they require specialized equipment to participate. Adaptive sports prosthetics and wheelchairs cost thousands of dollars and aren’t covered by insurance. Together, we can fund this equipment for someone who desperately needs it. This year I am running the Heartland Half Marathon to help Miriam and others like her so that they can have the ability to play, compete and thrive.

Miriam was born with spina bifida and congenital malformations of her leg. Within the early years of her life, she had several surgeries on her spine and leg. However, the bone defects in her leg were too extreme, and eventually, she had her right leg amputated when she was seven years old.

Despite the rough road she has faced, Miriam is optimistic about her future and what she may be physically capable of. She is an active child and would love to be able to run, jump, and play soccer. She is now 11 years old and dreams of being a Paralympian. Her family does not have the means to afford the sports prosthetic that will allow Miriam to reach her full potential.
